Repiratory/ Chest Physio

Our Physiotherapists can assist in the mobilisation and evacuation of phlegm, mucus or sputum from the lungs. The Physiotherapist will use manual techniques directly to the chest (i.e. chest clapping or vibration) in order to physically loosen the secretions retained in the lungs.

Benefits

Decreased shortness of breath and overall improvement in pulmonary function

Improved energy levels due to increased oxygen uptake

Reduction of symptoms associated and present in pneumonia, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, chest infections and chronic bronchitis

Self management with pulmonary rehabilitation programs and specific breathing exercises

Use of postural drainage positions (using a specialised bed) to mobilise secretions from peripheral airways to the central airways

  • Assistance with expectoration with sputum retention in the lungs
